Frequent Questions

What are Protective Action Guides (PAGs)?

Protective Action Guides, or PAGs, are guides that help officials decide when it is necessary for people to evacuate, stay inside or take other urgent steps to safeguard health in a radiation emergency.

Every emergency is different, and the best action or set of actions in one situation may not be helpful at another time or in another situation.

The PAGs provide general guidance to officials, which they can use together with their knowledge of local conditions, to make safety decisions.
