Frequent Questions

Does EPA monitor the ocean for radiation from Fukushima?

EPA does not monitor or sample ocean waters or operate outside of U.S. territories. We work with other federal agencies, including the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to carefully follow the Fukushima ocean leak.

The state of Oregon continues to test drinking water, precipitation and ocean water for radionuclides that could be associated with Fukushima.
